Distance Education and Electronic Delivery Subcommittee
The subcommittee will make recommendations to the EPC on matters pertaining
to distance and electronic education. It will also assist the faculty
and administration in identifying problems, trends, and opportunities
for USU in these areas. The subcommittee shall consist of an elected
representative from each college plus a representative from each of
the following: Instructional Support, Information Technology, Continuing
Education, and ASUSU or the GSS. Additional members may be appointed
to the subcommittee by the Educational Policies Committee to lend academic
expertise. The terms of Educational Policies Committee members on the
subcommittee will correspond to their terms on the Educational Policies
Committee. Other members will serve a 2-year term. The term of office
for student members shall be one year and coincide with the term of
ASUSU and GSS officers. The subcommittee shall elect a chair annually.

Proposed Charge
The Distance Education and Electronic Delivery (DEED) subcommittee will
act as a Faculty Senate advisory committee for Continuing Education;
provide input to Faculty Senate on matters pertaining to distance education
(defined as interactive broadcasts, online, and Independent Study courses);
and to assist faculty and administration to identify problems, issues,
trends, and opportunities in these areas. The subcommittee shall consist
of an appointed representative from each college who has experience
with or interest in distance education, at least three representatives
from Continuing Education, plus a representative from each of the following:
Instructional Support, Information Technology, University Libraries,
and ASUSU or GSS. The committee is charged with the following responsibilities
for the academic years 2005-07:
- Identify and analyze faculty and student issues with distance delivery, and to help identify and develop solutions.
- Review and recommend ways to facilitate collaborative efforts and communication between on and off-campus faculty.
- Review and provide input on support services provided to distance learners and Extension/Continuing Education faculty.
- Provide recommendations to Continuing Education on faculty training issues for distance education courses.
- Assist the development of the distance education course evaluation process by recommending designs for course and program assessments that are consistent with on-campus units in conjunction with appropriate student groups and the Faculty Evaluation Committee.
- Recommend to Faculty Senate Executive Committee: a permanent place for this subcommittee; to continue as a subcommittee of EPC; or be reconstituted as a separate Faculty Senate committee by the spring semester of 2007.
