Recommendations to the Selection Committee

The Dr. Nicholas C. and Mary Katherine Leone Leadership Award is established in recognition of the fact that rarely is the top administrator, department head, or those who function at the administrative level accorded sufficient recognition for their endless efforts to organize, motivate, improvise, and guide the numerous programs and problems of the unheralded University Administrator. Unlike the individual investigator, instructor, or worker at the functional level, who is the frequent recipient of numerous and sundry awards, the efforts and successes of the administrator are rarely recognized or openly documented.

In keeping with the above, the Selection Committee is enjoined to recognize certain principles and desires of the grantors, namely: that the recipient be the top echelon of his or her organization; have basic responsibilities for the implementation of programs or activities. The Award may be given to anyone now active at the University, at the time of retirement, or a reasonable period thereafter.

The recipient may be in the top category of research, teaching, management, or any special component of the University who has contributed to the success of a program to an outstanding degree. There should be no reference to race, sex, or creed in the final selection of the recipient.
